Santa Clara Law & BALIF Present “Don’t Ask Don’t Tell” Event

  • 20 Sep 2011
  • 12:00 PM
  • Santa Clara Law School-Bannan 127

Since 1993, more than 13,000 members of the U.S. Military have been discharged under “Don’t Ask Don’t Tell.” After a five year battle against DADT, the Ninth Circuit has lifted the stay on Judge Phillips’ ruling that DADT violates the Constitution and has ordered the military to immediately cease enforcement. Judge Phillips ruling was instrumental in changing policy affecting military personnel.

Santa Clara Law and Bay Area Lawyers for Individual Freedom (BALIF) are proud to announce a special presentation titled “Challenging the Constitutionality of Don’t Ask Don’t Tell” by Dan Woods, lead trial attorney representing the Log Cabin Republicans. The event will take place on September 20 from 12-1pm in Bannan 127.

Please join us in honoring our speakers for this event:

Dan Woods is a Partner at White & Case. He was the lead attorney for the plaintiffs in the renowned Log Cabin Republicans v. United States case which struck down DADT. Mr. Woods will be flying in from Los Angeles to provide a firsthand account of his experience and sentiments working on the case.

Anthony Loverde was a former Staff Sergeant of the U.S. Air Force. He flew 61 combat missions over Iraq before being discharged for being a homosexual. Mr. Loverde served as a witness in the case and will share his experiences regarding DADT and the impact it has had on his life.

We anticipate the room will reach full capacity so please plan to arrive early. After the presentation, there will be a reception held in Strong Commons room in Bergin Hall from 12-1pm.
